8 External Interfaces

Component Object M odel Interface

With Component Object Model (COM) too ls and technologies, you can

integrate application-specific components from different ve ndors into your

own applications. With CO M, MATLAB can include ActiveX controls or OLE

server processes, or you can configure MATLAB as a computational server

controlled by your client application programs.

For example, you can:

• Include ActiveX components, like a calendar, in y our MATLAB program.

• Access existing applications that expose objects via Automation, like

Microsoft Excel.

• Access M ATLAB as an Automation server from an application written

in Visual Basic or C.

COM support in MATLAB is only available on the Microsoft Windows

platform.
